Banks call on customers to update ID card data

Banks operating in the United Arab Emirates called on their customers to update their ID card data quickly to avoid freezing their accounts. This call was based on a circular issued by the Central Bank to instruct banks and insurers operating in the UAE to approve the ID card as an official document with regard to the bank accounts and retail banking transactions.

In a story published in Al Khalij’s today issue, the banks urged the customers to update their data by sending the ID number issued by the Emirates ID Authority for all citizens and residents via a text message or by visiting the nearest ATM of the bank or its branches.

According to the story, the non-compliance with updating data will stop the ATM card and will freeze several electronic services for the customer or even ban the account.
